[Pic of myself on the Empire State Building, 12/1999, newspaper pics from 9/12/2001, purchased in Reno] Eighteen years ago to the day, my ex-h, James, and I were in Reno.  We’d driven the 8 hours with our then-2 year and 10 month old daughters, Julia and Livy, to combine James’ business trip with a visit… Read More Contrast

God/Us

A few years ago, my daughter Livy was surprised when I told her I believed in God. She was 16 (I think) and didn’t know because I don’t tout God or observe religion unless it’s imminently relevant because for me God/source is such a big truth it doesn’t need to be spoken of. Since: of… Read More God/Us

Pet sitter Instagram

Jupiter and I did his seasonal photo shoot the other day and now his Christmas cards are all ready to send out. Have a very feline holiday, everyone! [But really: I’ve been going through my pictures and experiencing nostalgia and gratitude (and in one case, consternation) for the stories they tell. We’ve lost some this year; I see them on the screen of my phone and for a second, exist in two different dimensions, as if their passing dilates Time, but in Jupiter’s case, the story is a running joke that he’s a working boy hocking anything from cat trees to yarn in order to maybe help the family but also just really more generally to get the word out that he’s dedicated and very handsome. And he is, clearly making the story of his pics ‘creative nonfiction’. Anyways, wherever you find yourself today, I hope you’re able to snap a meaningful pic of your pets—I’m sharing a few of our own; last pic is Kiki high on and covered in catnip—for one day in the future, you might not remember the moment you snapped it, but you will remember the story of the love you had for your pet and that’ll be enough] #saltlakecity #petsofinstagram #petsitting #petsitter #humor #animals #cats #dogs
“I know you’re having some transcendent hippie moment with like the flowers or whatever but I’m gonna be straight with you: if I don’t find food on this walk, that might be it for me.” #dogs #dog #saltlakecity #terrier #survivalist [I love the work ethic of the terrier; they’re always open to facing the unpleasant potential of survival mode]. [So the wonder of taking pictures is that you wind up with some good ones of Mildred (and Missy 😘) and some flowers, and the downside is that the phone taking the pics of Mildred quickly blooms to 38,000 pics and every single picture you take instantly goes straight to iCloud. Which means you actually have to download it back onto your phone to send it to anybody or use it for anything. And that’s my life right now. I could buy more iCloud storage but that would only compound the problem—which I know from experience since that’s what I did last time—so I’m slowly trying to delete the ones that aren’t good so I can maybe start posting new ones. Hope everyone had a good holiday!].
A well-placed ‘would you care to explain…?’ means every holiday meal can end as soon as you need it to. Good luck tomorrow, everybody! #saltlakecity #holidays
Changing a bit each day...changing captions because some are too long, some are too bleh. But that’s all part of the process, I guess. Anyways, thank you for your support and friendship. Some of these are on Twitter too; I’m @AmyPalleson. #saltlakecity #book
Still haven’t heard (submitted 7/26) but they say they respond to ALL submissions and “it could take 12 weeks or longer” to do so (its been 17 weeks; I sent a follow up email last week) so I’m using my “free” time to tinker. About which I don’t actually have free time—it’s all donated from pressing and urgent responsibilities— but since adding the rectangle bit you see in these is entertaining, I’m justifying it as therapy I simply can’t do without. #cats #cat #catsofinstagram #catsofig #catsofinsta #catstagram #humor #book #dog #dogstagram #dogsofinsta #quotes #hotmic #saltlakecity (adding tags to this to check and see if IG has stopped having their nervous algorithmic breakdown) Edit: I’m also posting these to Twitter and am trying to find my way there. @AmyPalleson
Video sent yesterday from Mr. Cat’s human who is in Nairobi for a month. Picture is hers from three days ago. She’s keeping me updated on her 2.5 month trip which is part creative journey for her (as she’s a bookmaker, learning more of her craft in Switzerland before heading to Kenya) and part accompanying her scientist husband who is doing field research. She said they are staying in a hotel in Nairobi that is a lush oasis where cats roam inside the large gardens and is protected by tight security including bars on the windows because of a terrorist attack in January. ALSO: I forgot I was on Twitter. Yes; my forgetting is sometimes pro-level. I don’t have time to post to Twitter and also to Instagram (the posts on Twitter were auto-posted by the helpful and non/forgetful “machine”) but might begin making an effort, as privacy CAN be controlled on Twitter and I do not quite know what is going to happen with IG.
May we live today to honor the cat whose selflessness is so pervasive they live every single day to remind us of it. 🌿 [Couple things, one relevant to most people here and one certainly not: 1) I am completely full for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I have unfortunately had to turn quite a few people away and I am so sorry about that. If you need those dates, I’ve been sending people to rover.com. There really are good people on there—I know three personally—but please don’t wait to look for someone. If you have contacted me and/or we have talked about you needing those dates, I already have you down. 2) I’ve deleted my Facebooks; I deleted my old one yesterday morning after downloading my data—which was cool because if you go to “your posts”, you can scroll down and see everything you’ve written in one paragraph after another, seamless, along with most of the pictures— and downloaded the data and deleted my second one today. I had two Facebooks because my initial one started in 2012 and went until 2017 and an account hack revealed certain disturbing clarities so I started a second one with a much smaller friends list. Deleting was the healthiest choice for me. If we were friends there: Thank you for showing up and treating me decent. Henceforth, my creative juices will be towards pictures and captions, and solid/real pieces of writing posted to somewhere as yet pending. Related FYI: My Instagrams are @aimless1001 (now private—and justifiably so; my irreverence is not for everyone—which is why I’m posting this on a public account) and of course, @amythesitter, my Flickr is “Amy Palleson”, my pet sitter website is www.amythecrittersitter.com, my blog is www.amypal.com, my phone number is 801-580-5320, and finally my name is Amy Brook Palleson aka Sophie Stuckey aka Aimless, and it’s cold this morning and frost is sprinkled across the grass. Thank you!]
PSA: I sent out texts yesterday to everyone (except families already on the Thanksgiving schedule) about holiday dates; I’m pretty much full for 11/28-11/29 and rapidly getting to same for Christmas so please reach out now if you’re not on the schedule and needing either of these holiday times covered before it gets to the point where no sitter in the valley has any space. And for the record: Jack is NOT spoiled; he’s merely treated as you’d expect all whose grace and breeding comes with a genuine sweetness that rolls all the way down to the servant classes. We want to make him happy. It’s the least we can do.
When you’ve heard all those rumors about blondes but you never thought it would be this bad. #justfluff (whelp, yellow-face-toy lasted maybe five minutes and is currently the record-holder for most superb waste of money while also doing double-duty as Quinn’s doppelgänger) [No offense to any blondes out there; I happen to have birthed one and I’m pretty sure there’s more than just fluff in her noggin. Almost Pretty sure] [Also I’ll delete that last bit about my blonde firstborn if she likes this post but she won’t because she only likes them if they’re about Lady or if she accidentally presses “like” while scrolling on to memes about The Office]
Floyd and Quinn’s costume this year is called “two dogs arguing over the same toy even though sitter bought them several” and true to youngsters and costumes, about two minutes after I snapped this, it started “getting itchy” and thus proceeded to drop it’s fluffy guts all over the yard. No worries: no guts, no gory...er,..glory. Have a good holiday, everyone.
